Watercolor and Acrylic Painting Classes with Tom Hohn

Taking place at American Frame and Gallery’s New Studio and Classroom, Swansea, Illinois. Tom Hohn will be teaching watercolor and acrylic painting at this location beginning in March of 2008.

Known for his loose, colorful technique, as well as his laid-back approach, Tom has been teaching painting for over twenty years at various locations, including Southwestern Illinois College (Belleville campus), Scott Air Force Base, and Hobby Lobby in Fairview Heights. He has hosted outdoor painting workshops as well as one-day seminars in painting. He is a member of the St. Louis Artists’ Guild, The St. Louis Watercolor Society, and is an Associate of the American Watercolor Society.

Tom begins each class with a blank sheet of paper and, employing a large brush and bright colors, teaches how to bring your own personal expression to create a complete painting by the end of each session, using only four brushes, seven colors and some household odds and ends. Smaller brushes are used only near the end of the painting.

He has been painting for over forty years, and knows the struggles of the beginning artist quite well. He also tries to never forget what it is like to be a beginner and will take you through a painting step-by-step. A short critique follows in which Tom critiques his own painting as well as those of his students. Laughter abounds as Tom relates his own mis- adventures in painting and of meeting and studying with the artists that have inspired him in his own career. Questions and comments are freely encouraged during the painting session and the critique.

Materials lists for both the acrylic and watercolor classes are available at this store on request.
